YSIGIM is a cult-status funeral doom metal band originally formed in Warsaw, Poland, in the early 1990s. Regarded as one of the early pioneers of the dark funeral doom genre, their music blends crushing heaviness with deeply atmospheric, slow-moving soundscapes that evoke bleak and introspective emotional landscapes. [1][2]
The band’s classic lineup centers on Marcin Rusinowski (guitar, vocals) and Marcin Kowalski (drums, bass), a duo whose creative partnership defined YSIGIM’s distinctive approach to doom metal. Their work is noted for its shamanic intensity, merging elements of funeral doom with sludge, and whispers of black and death metal — creating music that is as immersive as it is unrelentingly heavy. [1]
YSIGIM’s debut album recorded in 1993, Ain Soph Or, remains a touchstone in the genre and a cult favourite among extreme music aficionados. Originally released on cassette, it has since been reissued in expanded formats, allowing both long-time fans and new listeners to experience its raw power and emotional depth decades after its initial release. [1][2]
Following an initial period of activity through the mid-90s — including the compilation Whispers in 1996 — the band became dormant for many years. After several attempts to reignite their creative output, YSIGIM officially returned in late 2023, marking a new chapter in their legacy with fresh material and renewed artistic vision. [1]
In 2024, they released Dead God Lies, an EP/album featuring previously unreleased material alongside newly written songs, reconnecting the present with their formative sound. Since then, singles such as Endless, Forever Unblessed, and Downward Spiral have surfaced, teasing the full-length album Sins and showcasing the band’s evolution while honoring their foundational doom metal roots. [1][2][3]
Bold, uncompromising, and atmospheric, YSIGIM stands as a defining force in extreme metal, continually pushing the boundaries of funeral doom with both reverence for their origins and a forward-looking artistic drive.

When someone says that funeral doom metal was started - among others - by YSIGIM, he is probably two years outdated forgotting about OBNOXIOUSNESS that was before YSIGIM.

By common opinion this album is milestone of original concept that escapes the typical understanding of genres from death / black / doom to any metal form.

After 30 year and two not completed returns YSIGIM is back. Dead God Lies contains three new tunes and additional mixes summarizng the band romance with industrial and dark electronic genre in years 2005-2008 resulting in 47 minutes of new album that in initial idea was just EP.

2025 was a very busy year for YSIGIM. This included a double-disc reissue for Dying Sun Records, three singles announcing the album "Sin," and work on a vinyl reissue of "Ain Soph Or."
